25th BiIRTHDAY HAWAII PARTY

25th birthday Hawaiian Party Luxembourg

I would like to share with you the result of my 25th Birthday Hawaiian Luau Party. After some weeks of preparation it happened this weekend and I am very happy with the result. I had to order most of the decoration items online, since in Luxembourg we don’t have such a big variety of party decoration stores. But with a budget of 50 Euro I could transform our small flat into a tropical paradise.

The main idea of the party was to celebrate that the sun came out in Luxembourg, so I asked our guests to come dressed with something Hawaiian and prepared some tropical cocktails with a variety of fruits. If you want to know how to make this cocktails and learn how to decorate the cups check my precious blog post: How to Make Tropical Cocktails. After the cocktails I tried to create some tropical style barbeque with many fruits and vegetables brochettes and finally we had some Hawaiian themed games such as Limbo Dance, a Hula Dance competition and a Pineapple balance competition.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, and please share your comments with me.

Fondant cakes

Fondant cake Luxembourg

One of my favorite cakes are the fondant cakes, which in recent years has became really popular, but it originated in Europe in the 18th century, to decorate elaborate cakes, usually for royalty.

Fondant is a type of frosting or icing to cover and decorate cakes and cup cakes mainly. In french is means “melting”. It is also known as the baker’s Play-Doh because of it’s clay-like consistency and molding capabilities. The standard fondant  consists of water, sugar and glucose.

There are two types of fondant: pourable fondant and rolled fondant.

  • Poured fondant is a creamy confection used as a filling or coating for cakes, pastries, and candies or sweets. In its simplest form, it is sugar and water cooked to the soft-ball stage, cooled slightly, and stirred or beaten until it is an opaque mass of creamy consistency. Sometimes lemon is added to the mixture, mainly for taste. Other flavorings are used as well, as are various colorings.
  • Rolled fondant or fondant icing, which is not the same material as poured fondant, is commonly used to decorate wedding cakes. It includes gelatin (or agar in vegetarian recipes) and food-grade glycerine, which keeps the sugar pliable and creates a dough-like consistency. It can also be made using powdered sugar and melted marshmallows. Rolled fondant is rolled out like a pie crust and used to cover the cake.

Here I provide some inspirational pictures of amazing fondant cakes I found on the web, I hope you enjoy them.
